Simiple Machines – Not So Simple
I’ve spent a fair amount of time this week trying to do a manual install of the open-source Simple Machines forum software on www.nopracticenoproblem.com. The price was right (free) and had a community of support which fit right in with the free GoDaddy hosting. Had I done this before and had more experience with MySQL on GoDaddy it probably would have been simple. It was definately a learning experience, which I needed. I now know a bit more about setting up a MySQL database on a server. I’ve also learned that all browsers are not created equal. SMF plays nicer with Internet Explorer than it does with Firefox. I’ll have to try Safari out on it in my spare time. It just drives home the need for thorough testing. I still have to work out some bugs but it’s somewhat usable.
